Lotus – Nelumbo nucifera

No mud, no lotus.

Striving for the higher while ignoring the low will never lead to enlightenment. Without its roots in the dirt, the lotus flower will never be able to reach the light. It grows through the waters associated with the realm of emotions (Poseidon, the sea god is also the lord of emotions). When the water clears, thoughts and feelings calm down, you can see what has always been right before your eyes, reality as it is when your vision is not clouded or distorted.

For millennia, meditators have practiced reaching the state of inner stillness where knowledge and wisdom can be found. Lotus essence serves to free the mind and open to unconditional love. Feelings and thoughts can be guides, but the true path can only be found with the whole being, with the material and the immaterial, the hidden and the obvious, the pure and the impure.

Lotus helps to see oneself as part of the whole and to develop respect and love for everything that is.
