Self-Heal is an old medicinal plant and has been used for health purposes. It contains, among other things, essential oil. The plant itself is rather inconspicuous, grows up to 10 to 20 cm tall in meadows and clearings and blooms brownish to purple between May and October.
Self-Heal got its German name (something like „little brownie“) because of its naturopathic indication: it was used to gargle in cases of sore throat which was called „throat-brownie“. It was discovered as a flower essence in the USA after it ‚emigrated‘ there as an originally European plant. It is now known worldwide under its English name Self-Heal, but it has other names such as „Heal-all“, „carpenter‘s herb“, „heart of the Earth“, „woundroot“ and „bluelocks“.
North American natives mixed Self-Heal with catnip to make a mild laxative. They also used Self-Heal tea to sharpen their senses when hunting.
So much for the long-forgotten properties of the plant in naturopathy. For over 20 years, however, the little plant has also been known for its essence. And here it serves as a true „all-purpose tool“:
Self-Heal alleviates self-doubt and confusion, it influences harmful behavior patterns. It further intensifies the internal cleansing of emotional waste products and can therefore be used to support the treatment of the chronically ill. It promotes the positive effect of other healing applications and strengthens the body’s own defense system.
